Pre-Trial Intervention

Dorchester Alcohol and Drug Commission’s Pre-Trial Intervention Program allows participants to defer prosecution for first-time, non-violent offenses. Clients are referred to the Pre-Trial Intervention program by the Solicitor’s Office and upon successful completion of the program, the pending legal charges are dismissed.

Clients participate in assessment and development of an individual treatment plan which might include individual counseling, group counseling, family counseling, psycho-education, and/or case management. The program is designed to meet the legal requirements and clinical/ educational needs of each client.

Goals of the program include evidence of reduced risk for future law violations and improved understanding of the behavior leading to the legal consequences. Clients who present with substance abuse or dependence or who are charged with using illegal drugs are expected to achieve abstinence from substances along with increased awareness of problems related to alcohol and other drug use. Clinicians will assist clients in understanding the progression of the disease of addiction and guide them in risk reduction, decision-making skills, and coping techniques.

Successful completion of the Dorchester Alcohol and Drug Commission’s Pre-Trial Intervention Program includes compliance with attendance, achievement of treatment plan goals, completing an exit interview and payment of fees.
