Frequently Asked Questions
General Questions Q. What kinds of services do you provide? A. DADC ( Dorcheser Alcohol and Drug Commission ) provides a broad range of services for alcohol, drug, or other mental health problems (such as depression, marital conflict, or behavioral problems). Depending on what we recommend after your assessment, you may come to weekly individual appointments, weekly group sessions, or more intensive group sessions 3-5 days per week. We can also make referrals to other agencies for services we may not provide. Q. How do I access your services? A. You can enter DADC services in one of two ways. If you believe you have a problem involving drugs or alcohol (or other problems such as depression or family conflict), you can call and set up an appointment for an assessment. If you are being referred by another agency, by your family, family doctor, the legal system, or the school system, that person or agency can call and schedule the assessment or orientation (depending on the program indicated). DADC has a 24-hour on-call system, which you can use during non-business hours to communicate a need for help. Counselors will call you back immediately, and then take whatever other steps are necessary to provide needed treatment. Q. How much will treatment cost? A. There are several standardized programs, which require a programmatic fee. Other services are billed according to a set fee schedule. If you have insurance, we will be happy to investigate the coverage your policy provides and either bill directly or provide billing information to you. We will never refuse treatment on any person's inability to pay our fees--our financial staff will work with you to ensure that you are provided quality treatment at an affordable price. Q. Do you have to tell my boss that I'm here? What about my family and friends? A. This agency follows the strict guidelines of confidentiality regulations required by the Federal government. With only a few exceptions (those referral agencies who require that we provide them with your progress in treatment), we will not disclose to employers, family or friends that you are even receiving services at DADC. We will, however, encourage you to inform them (if appropriate) so that they can provide you support in your recovery. Q. How much time will I have to spend in treatment? A. Your time in our agency will depend on the type of treatment you are receiving, and your progress while in treatment. Generally speaking, our treatment services are time-limited, either because you will meet your treatment goals or because you are receiving a service that is provided a specified number of times. We are as eager as you are to have you resume your regular productive life! Q. Can my family get help too? A. We believe that the family is a very important part in your successful treatment outcome. Many times, the family will benefit by receiving education about addiction, depression, or other problems they (and you) may have experienced. DADC provides several levels of family education and counseling, either with you as part of your program, or separately according to their needs. Q. What kind of qualifications do your staff members have? A. DADC is pleased to offer our clients and families the services of counselors and support personnel who are educated, licensed, or credentialed to the highest level in their respective fields. All clinical staff members are credentialed by the state of South Carolina to provide counseling services, or are licensed by their professional organizations. DADC employs a full-time staff member who has a PhD in clinical psychology, and we have frequent access to medical doctors. Q. What happens after I finish treatment? A. We believe that recovery from addiction is a process, rather than an event. After your treatment is finished here, we will be glad to make referrals to other counselors or agencies to help you continue the journey. Of course, you may call us at any time should you need further services, or just want information and support. Specific Program Questions For frequently asked questions about the ADSAP program.
